It keeps you active even though you are sitting and doing it. Most crafters feel calmer when they are crocheting, knitting, weaving, or whatever the skill you are doing. Teaching children those skills young will help instill in them the ability to express themselves in a more positive outlet. Human beings are hard-wired to create.
